TCM Print Length

TCM's "Now Playing" Guide said this film would run 94 minutes - the running time listed by most sources. The 1/30/2012 showing lasted almost exactly 90 minutes, the same time as my Turner Home Entertainment / RKO Classic Collection laserdisc. BTW - the laserdisc jacket says the feature time is 94 minutes (like Now Playing), but from opening RKO Logo to completion of End Credits is 90 minutes. Does anyone have an idea what is contained in the missing 4 minutes? Does the complete 94 minute version exist in any archive?

I just saw the last 10-15 minutes of this movie. I checked wikipedia to read the plot and it says this about the ending:

"Curtis reunites with Donna after sending away Christabel with nothing more than a
few expensive furs. She gets into an accident and is hospitalized, but promptly begins
a flirtation with her doctor, showing that she is truly incorrigible."

There was no scene of Christabel getting into an accident and flirting with a doctor. So, maybe that was the last 4 minutes? I wonder why they deleted that.

The Warner Film Noir Archive Collection DVD includes the deleted scenes as part of an "alternate ending with never before-seen footage." It may have been changed because it was too much at odds with the production code. It seems to me more likely, however, that it was deemed a bit too tongue-in-cheek to mesh with the overall tone of the picture.

I will have to see if I can get that alternate ending. I am not sure why such an ending would be seen as clashing with the Code. she apparently crashed her car? But even an ending showing Christobel flirting with a doctor does not mean she had a happy ending.

Wow, interesting. Thank you.
