Brilliant film!

I don't usually go for old B&W films as I tend to find them slow. I caught this on Film4 in the afternoon and loved it. It showed a era and attitudes that has now completely changed.

And, unfortunately, they have not changed for the better.

I would say that no longer treating wife-beating as an occasion for a good joke between blokes is a change for the better. And if the police are no longer portrayed with such unilateral reverence, that might be more because of what we know about them now than what they were actually like back then. (Not a swipe at the people who put their lives on the line for others; just a bit of reality.)

The movie is more famous for inspiring the long running series 'Dixon of dock green.' The Dixon character having been killed in this film was resurrected some years later.

Its that man again!!

Didn't see it, but this film reminds me a little of early "The Bill" crossed with early Coronation Street.

It is interesting that they resurrected the dead police officer to lead the TV show, but clearly astute thinking, as the series was very popular.🐭
