Cécile Aubry France Sex Kitten?

Reading up on Cécile Aubry, aka the Black Rose, apparently she was a French and American superstar on par with a Brigette Bardot. I had never heard of Cecile before. Does anyone else know how she was percieved by contemporary actors and fans?

She seems kind of tiny.

Cecile Aubry made a bigger hit in the French-speaking world than in the U.S. She pretty much retired from acting in the late 50's to concentrate on writing and producing.

She wrote, directed, and produced two TV series, "Poly" and "Belle et Sebastien", which starred her son Mehdi El Glaoui. Both were series featuring children and their animals (horse, dog) and were aimed at an audience of family or children -- much like "Lassie" in the U.S.

Why she wasn't a hit in the U.S. is a mystery to me. Perhaps the "sex kitten" image didn't sit well with her. At any rate, from the career moves she made, she seems to be a very bright woman, and way ahead of her time.

She definitely pops on the screen in the Black Rose (pretty much the best thing about the film actually).

Anyone know how good her English was? In this role she was not supposed to be fluent but it might be that her command of the language was not good enough to take on the majority of Hollywood roles, which required more mastery of the langauge.

She certainly seemed to have everything else going for her.

Just saw her in "The Black Rose" and she was one hot little tart in her day (age 22 years in this movie). When I realise she was born the same year as my father I have to shake my head in disbelief. Truly, being an actor/actress on celluloid makes one immortal!
