Cochran's very effective and it's a solid little gangster noir, too - well paced, reasonably suspensful, with several memorable setpieces. Would have been even more solid though without the righteously blaring bookending sermons hammering home the message that crime doesn't pay, as well as the unnecessary, annoying and very literal minded voiceover that intrudes from time to time to (mostly) explain things that were obvious enough without it.
