They Say That Falling in Love Is Wonderful,'

I have to say that I fall in love with Betty Hutton every time I see her in a movie.

She was great in this movie. Taking nothing away from Judy Garland, I'm sure she would have been great too, but Betty hit a home run with this role.

And the rest of the cast treated her like crap for taking the role away from Garland, and as a thank you for saving their butts and stepping into the role and turning in a great performance, the studio forbade her from attending the premiere in New York. That's show-biz, folks!

I heard that the executives of MGM fired Garland, not that the role was "taken" from her.

Anyway, after hearing a few aborted tracks from the original cast, including Garland, I personally believe she wouldn't have been as convincing.
Aside from the awkward gape-mouthed scenes, Hutton was perfection.

Betty Hutton was made for this role! Period!!

I *beep* at the line when Howard Keel sings back to her "know that holding a man in your arms is wonderful." How would he know that? A really enjoyable duo.

Garland's inability to complete the movie was fortunate, because Hutton was perfect in the role.
