Why are the cannibals running away and yelling "Iguana!" just before Bogart shows up?

(I mistakenly thought it had something to do with Tennessee Williams "Night of the Iguana", but that movie came out decades later and has nothing to do with Bogart or South America.)

That's "bwana," and it's on the wrong continent anyway. It's an alleged African usage, not South American.
