Buzzr TV, what are u doing?

Buzzr TV has been running What's my Line, To Tell the Truth, and I've got a Secret, on the weeknights, but with all the years of shows recorded, they often show the same programs that have aired only 2-3 weeks ago. Come on, a little more variety, please!

reply

No kidding, over 800 shows and they repeat them in two or three weeks. Crazy

reply

I LOVE that they leave the old commercials in tact, though. They're so creepy! The interpretive dance about Stop-ette will give me nightmares!

And who knew that Anacin fought depression?!

I was thrilled when I found BuzzR, and began taping WML and TTTT, thinking I was going to have a bonanza viewing experience. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed to find that they keep showing the same shows over and over.

I thought I was going to see shows that were not on YouTube, but I think there are more on there than on BuzzR. They need to include a lot more variety or they will lose viewers.

reply

I only discovered this about 5 weeks ago, randomly finding Buzzr.

But what I've figured out is this: Mon-Fri they air the shows (1 each, 2x over a 4 hr period b/c commercials are <gratefully> left in). Then on the weekends, they re-run the shows from the week.

In the 5 weeks I haven't seen any of the shows aired more than once. So I think their agenda is weeknights, one new show, then re-run the weeknight shows.

Personally, i can't wait for WML to move from the Fred Allen era to the next panelist. he's not my favorite. Smart, yes, but I grew up with Steve Allen etc. in that chair -- Fred was a couple of years before my consciousness.

Brilliantly done, class act, all the way.

I would be ever so greatful if Buzzr would move I've Got A Secret up earlier and bump To Tell the Truth to the IGAS spot. I love the reenactments that they put on IGAS and I fall asleep before midnight. And that darn buzzer just wakes me up out of a sound sleep!

reply

I thought you were onto something, but unfortunately they are still repeating shows that were on months ago, and I've hardly seen a new show in weeks.

reply

Right. I made that same observation. And really, these shows did at least 39 episodes a year for so many years. Why are they in this endless loop?

The same thing is happening with other shows like Tattletales and Let's Make a Deal. If they don't start adding new shows soon, they're going to start losing viewers, if they haven't already. Who starts to watch the same shows over and over?

The last three shows of WML, TTTT and IGAS are repeats from the previous day. If you catch TTTT and WML (I'm not a fan of I've Got A Secret) in the first go round, you'll see new episodes. Buzzr may be repeating the last three shows to suit a West Coast audience. I worked in cable TV, and this is called 'mirroring.' - repeating shows at an earlier time to gain a West Coast audience.

FYI, starting this Monday, January 4, 2016 the line up of all three shows will start at 2 PM EST, but the overnight will remain as it was. Perhaps this will give viewers greater variety, and you won't see the same shows over and again. I've only learned that TTTT and WML were on Buzzr over the Christmas holiday - I used to watch them, faithfully, when the GSN played them in their "Overnight in Black and White" spot. Marvelous shows, so very smart and vastly entertaining.

Hope the daytime lineup will resolve the problem. Actually, the YouTube videos are much clearer prints, but the analog side of me still prefers to watch these shows on television, as they were originally presented.

Unfortunately, they've been repeating the same shows over and over since I started watching the channel back in September. I've been taping all episodes of WML, TTT and Tattletales everyday, and at this point I just delete them once I see that it's yet another repeat. It seems there's only a set amount of episodes available of each show and they just keep putting them on. I haven't seen a new one in weeks. Very frustrating.

I don't tape Let's Make a Deal or Press my Luck, but I occasionally catch an episode and I've noticed that they're repeats too.

There's a different episode of TTTT and WML each day and they are showing them in sequence. I am writing plot summaries for the respective shows - WML episodes are from January and February 1955 and TTTT are from January 1961.

I've only just discovered these shows - as I said in a previous post, the GSN used to play them overnight. I haven't been watching since September, so I can't dispute what you are saying - I only hope that they continue to feature the respective shows, sequentially, as they have been. They are absolutely wonderful and I do enjoy them immensely. What a completely different world and one we will never see again.

I know the layout of the shows as I've been taping them faithfully for months. I enjoy them as well but, for me, they're all repeats of repeats.

For instance I just checked the episodes from yesterday and on the first WML they had the episode with the bullfighter, and Lily Pons as Mystery Guest. On the second WML, they had the lady who designs bridges and the Mystery Guest was Mrs. Fred Allen. Both of theses episodes have been on several times, most recently just before Christmas. I checked today's episodes, and the first WML was the one with Pat Finch (chorus girl on Fanny) and the Mystery Guest was Pearl Bailey. I saw this one just last week, and a couple of times before Christmas.

The TTTT on today is the one with Father Joseph Lynch and, let me tell you, this one has been on so many times!! I even thought to myself prior to checking, please don't let it be Fr. Joseph Lynch again...he was just on a few days ago and several times recently. The second TTTT is the one with Tom Pike (Daniel Boone type)...again, that episode has been shown so many times, it's ridiculous.

Maybe it's different in your region, but in my area...repeat, repeat, repeat.

"Personally, i can't wait for WML to move from the Fred Allen era to the next panelist."

I enjoyed Fred Allen a great deal. Last night they ran the first show following his sudden death (the next day). The cast carried on though in a very subdued manner.

I've listened to quite a few of Allen's radio programs and read his two books because I'm fascinated by Vaudeville and radio. His WML replacements were quite good and I've always been a Steve Allen fan. As other reviewers have stated, the show's cast was intelligent and witty.....characteristics sadly missing on television today.

Same with Match Game....it's annoying

Fast forward six months later, and still the same repeats. Very disappointing, as I was hoping to see all the vintage episodes. At least when these shows aired on GSN, you saw all of them!

reply

I have e-mailed BUZZR about this and received a stock reply thanking me for watching. Like other respondents here I have stopped watching the channel until they move it along. Fred Allen died in 1956 so when I stop seeing him I'll know the more recent shows are airing.

reply

Well, the good news - for Fred Allen, anyway - is that, at this rate, he’ll live forever!

Had they completed the sequence they started at the end of January (when I began watching), he would have died almost 60 years to the day from the date he actually died (in March ‘56). But, no, they shifted back to 1954-55 again.

Then, two weeks ago (or was it three?), they finally started moving forward again - January ’56, then February ’56, and then . . . back to ’55 again!

I honestly bear Fred Allen no ill will . . . but enough already! It’s time to move on.

My only theory is that perhaps Buzzr was only able to acquire the rights to a limited selection of episodes and that's why those are the only ones they show.

reply

They're still repeating the same 40 or 50 episodes of TTTT, WML, and IGAS.

It's intense. the show was on from before I was born through the 60s... probably 40 shows a year for 2 decades...

"After this he'll be a perfectly normal human being, and you know what stinkers they are!"

reply

New episodes of WML (1956) and TTTT (1963) so tune in!

reply

Excellent! Thank you!

"Say anything about me, dahling, as long as it isn't boring."

It's also possible that those episodes don't exist anymore. There are stories of the networks purging old films and tapes of shows through the 60's and 70's. No one anticipated there would be a market for old shows like this. Storage can be very expensive.

Before Johnny Carson took ownership of his show, NBC destroyed hundreds of early episode's of The Tonight Show, keeping only those that had extraordinary content.

Game and talk shows had virtually no appeal to the syndicated market until the retro cable channels started popping up.
