Anyone else seriously missing this?

Since GSN took it off the air, I have nothing to watch when I have my coffee in the morning. I used to love getting up and turning on the DVR to watch the overnight eps. It became somewhat of a tradition.

I miss classy Arlene!! I miss Bennett and Dorothy! I miss Mr. John Charles Daly! Ugh, I need my fix and there's not much to speak of on YouTube. I want to see the ep with Margaret Chase Smith so bad again. Dorothy was positively beaming when she went to shake her hand and it always stuck out in my mind. She looked overwhelmed with pride.

Anyone else jonesing for some WML?

reply

I miss the show like crazy too. I e-mailed them about it and they said that they
had no plans to put it back on the air, which really makes me sad. There are so
many episodes that I never got to see.

This has got to be one of the greatest game shows ever made. I can't believe
they would take it off the air, considering some of the horrible things that
they play during the daytime.

I was watching some WML clips on YouTube last night which reminded how much I really miss the show. It was just plain stupid of GSN to take it off the air- after all, it's a black-and-white 50-year-old game show- now that GSN isn't showing it, it can't be seen anywhere else, except for the bunch of YouTube clips from people who were smart enough to tape the show while it was on GSN.

I miss it too! It is the greatest game show! What is the point of having a channel dedicated to game shows if it doesn't even show What's My Line?

reply

I have the last seven, or so, months of shows on my DVR. WOO-HOO! I used to have TiVo where I could transfer stuff to DVDs but now it's Comcast and I don't know how to do it. The memory is full so I can't record anything else without deleting precious WMLs but it's worth it to have them.

OMG six months of eps? I'm so jealous! I only have the last 5 saved. Unfortunately, FIOS automatically deletes auto records after that. =(

Seriously miss the show. I would get up an hour early so I could start off my day with a smile as the show never failed to amuse me.

Does GSN say why they took it off? Poor ratings? No wonder. It was on at 4AM on the East Coast, as I recall.

I have to think that they are just giving it a rest. It's my understanding that they've been running it for the past 10 or 15 years, though I've only begun to watch it in the last two years or so.

Hang in there, ladies and gentlemen, WML will return in short order, I believe.

I hope so. It is the best game show.

OH! Don't even get me started!! LOLOL!! I had a ritual too. I'd recorded it as well on my DVR, go to class, go to Subway to get myself some food and go home and eat it while watching WML!
I'm so glad that one day I just woke up 3 in the morning, looked through the guide, decided to watch it......and laughed my you-know-what off until it was done!! That Fred Allen got me sucked into watching it!

I guess you can say I'm part of Generation Y? (X or Z who knows I'm 23) and I really thought it would be boring, but I was (and still am) shocked at how they could entertain and keep it clean! I don't know about anyone else, but Bennett Cerf's corny jokes had me on the floor laughing and Dorothy Kilgallen ALWAYS seem to get the line right. Ernie Kovacs.....well....he folds everything!! LMAO!!

You just don't see that type of entertainment AT ALL today and that's what I loved so much about that show. I'm still pissed at GSN for stopping it just when I really got into it.

It's over a year ~ maybe, it's time for another groundswell. Call, e-mail and correspond with GSN. I suspect it may be an issue with GSN's license to play it -- it may have run out and GSN may have opted to not renew it.

Still, it's worth a try.

Oh heck yeah! I'm up for that. I'll copy and paste and send them the same letter over and over again!! :)

reply

Well sadly we don't have the whole run, but close to 700 episodes is pretty good. Hope that helps! :)

It's now 8 years after the initial post, but I watch "WML" and "I've Got A Secret" on BUZZR. It's also coming out, four episodes at a time, on inexpensive DVDs. I've just ordered Volume 4.

I don't miss it a bit!
Why? I'm watching it on Youtube!
It's fun to see the guest panelists among the regulars.
The best part is the mystery guests! So many great personalities down through the years. Love it!
