A Woman's Work Is Never Done - Alice Scrubs The Kitchen Floor?

How long would that have taken? She says she did this as one of her 'many jobs' to Ralph, but how big was the 'kitchen floor'?

She then did a bit about "oh, now I have to defrost the refrigerator" and takes the pan from underneath, pours it in the sink and says "done!"

It was like that task didn't take so long, so why should any of her jobs so they had to hire a maid?

You missed the point of that gag. It was explained that the reason why it took Alice so long to do everything was that she didn't have any modern appliances or other helpful things like that to help her. So her going to the icebox had nothing to do with demonstrating how hard her tasks were. It was making the point that she didn't even have something as modern as a refrigerator to help her around the kitchen.

In other words, she was being sarcastic by referring to cleaning out the ice box as "defrosting the refrigerator." That's why the audience laughed when she pulled out the pan and poured it into the sink. When you used to defrost a refrigerator back in the day (boy, am I dating myself), what you would do was unplug it, open the doors and wait for a couple of hours for the ice to melt. With an ice box, there's nothing to defrost. You put a block of ice in it, it melts as soon as you put it in there, and the melted water drips into the pan.
