The first time I read that some people thought Alice was an abused wife, I was shocked. Does anyone else think Ralph was abusive? I didn't

He was the quintessential loudmouth. No matter what silly threats he made, Alice never flinched. She zinged him back all the time. And in reality, Ralph seemed a bit afraid of her.

He tried to conceal certain things from her, like his "Man on the Street" interview when he said he was "boss of the house." He tried to hide the time that he bowled in the championship game the day before his company physical. If he was that tough and in control of Alice, he'd put his foot down and do exactly as he pleased. But he didn't. He just ranted.

I think your description was absolutely spot on. He was really a loudmouth, and somewhat of a braggart, probably as an outlet to make up for his shortcomings. Alice probably knew these things and just put up with his loudmouth ways.

Deep down they really had a very strong relationship.

Typical radical feminists and SJWs complaining again. It's bad enough they've ruined today's culture but they have to try and ruin classics from the past too. It was a different time and even by today's standards, he wasn't abusive.

Glad to see other fans didn't think Ralph was abusive. He yelled a lot, but he only ended up causing trouble for himself.

As he admitted several times, " I got a BIG MOUTH!" lol Always made me laugh.

Whenever he needed money for one of his schemes, he had to beg Alice for it. And usually she usually turned him down.

Remember when he wanted to rent a costume for the Lodge Masquerade party? Alice turned down his request for ten dollars.

"Well for five dollars, I can go as Billy the Kid."

"I'll give you a tin can and you can go as Billy the Goat."

Alice never seemed like an abused woman. She handled the family finances. Of course Ralph was too cheap to buy any appliances or a TV. But otherwise, he never did anything abusive. He just yelled.

Maybe this is just something I understand from my own childhood. My dad would yell all sorts of silly things and my mom, my sisters and I would just roll our eyes and leave the room.

Sometimes he would be left standing alone in a room asking, " Hey, where did everybody go? I'm serious!"

This show should be banned.

Alice was a misandrist abuser of Ralph. She stayed home all day while Ralph worked, yet he was forced to turn over his pay to Alice. Several times we saw Ralph beg Alice for some of his own money back but she refused.

She insulted Ralph constantly and poked fun at his obesity. Her mother was also abusive to Ralph yet Alice did nothing to defend her husband. Ralph was reduced to blustering about using his superior size and weight, but everyone knew Alice was the alpha. She forced him to back down totally emasculating him in front of friends and family. At the end of every episode, he would sheepishly have to apologize to Alice and be forced to say she was "the greatest" constantly to massage her ego.

For a second there, i thought you were serious. lol

It was obvious that Ralph turned over most of his pay so Alice could pay the bill and do the grocery shopping,. Ralph seemed to be a terrible money manager. In the episode when he and Norton are going on the Raccoon convention, Trixie says something like "Ed saved about $100" for the trip. Ralph had saved nothing.

He did however, keep a certain amount of money for his hobbies. When Alice wanted to buy a TV, he said that "She wants to use my lodge dues, poker and bowling money to do it!"

And don't forget his "Admiral Dewey" sports jacket.

When Ralph begged Alice for money, it was usually for one of his get rich quick schemes like his "Helpful Happy Housewife Handy." No wonder Alice didn't want to give him money.

Unfair! What man wouldn't want an Admiral Dewey sports jacket? As for the Handy Housewife Helper, nothing can core a apple like this gadget. Zip-Zip it is done. Truly better living through television...

Ralph was a treasure trove of great ideas...his invention that would do away with electric lights-wall paper that glows in the dark, the $99,000 Answer, his 'Man from Space" costume that was going to win the big prize,etc.
