George's den look a lot like Fonzie's apartment above the Cunningham's garage
That's pretty much what it was. I always liked it.
Back when rich people has chauffeurs, they usually had to supply housing so they'd be available at all times. The logical place was an apartment over the garage.
Since George & Gracie drove themselves, George turned the chauffeur's apartment into his den.
