A film with good acting and potential ... (spoiler)


... spoilt by heavy handed morality in which the childhood sins of Tommy see him punished and nearly die. I didn't like the film's message, which pervades the film.

The film is fabulous . . . you're misinterpreting . . .

I find it unpleasant when a child is punished unjustly because the parent chooses to not believe the child, but it does happen. And "crying wolf" and being a liar does have the logical consequence of not being believed.

This reminds me of Our Vines Have Tender Grapes (1945), and the particularly hard scene of the young daughter being punished over a friend of her's fibbing. It is not rare.
