I was quite taken aback by the lesbian seduction scene. I don't recall any scenes of this nature before the 60's. Quite daring for its time. Can anyone think of a comparable scene? Kudos to Ingmar.

Indeed, I was expecting a kiss at any moment. That's the trademark of great directors, they do what they want to do, regardless of what their time dictate.

god there's a focken thread about lesbianism and/or incest on every single Bergman film. Things get mildly close between two characters and people just can't handle it being anything but carnal lusty sexual affection.

shareI too was shocked when I saw how sensual their closeups were and the look on the seducers face as her intentions become clear. For 1949, that is amazing. Bergman indeed did do whatever he wanted. The oldest scene of frontal nudity that I can recall is from his Port of Call (1946).
