TCM's print is sub-par.
Perhaps its time to give this one a rejuvenation?

reply

I doubt how it's any more subpar than Treeline's DVD release. It's an absolute embarrassment. It's simple a DVD ripped from a totally crappy crappy VHS tape, complete with scanlines, faded colors and crap sound mixing.

Maybe they'll eventually get around to it, but there are probably a lot of films in line ahead of it.

I found this movie, in the "Fabulous Forties", 50 movie set.
from Mill Creek. $ 13.00. ( how cheap, can you get?) But the copy is great! Good picture, good sound, good color ( a little red, because it's so old ), but otherwise, a true bargain. The oil field fire scene, was amazing. Love to know how they did that.

reply

Exactly. I was surprised it was a 3 strip technicolor original. It looked like some cheap monopac color. I guess its not on anybody's national treasure list so it will remain an orphan film.

I found it on youtube and the sound and color was perfect.

Help stamp out and do away with superfluous redundancy

I agree! I was very disappointed at the color. It really looked like a cheap "B" movie from the 50's instead of a major studio production as this one. The sound was pretty good, but, during the fire scene, the dialogue is overpowered by the other noises. I had to rewind a couple of times and listen very carefully to hear what was being said. I hope that they decide to do some restoration on this one in the future because it is a very good film.
