Dan Duryea or George Sanders

So, who is the slimiest: Dan Duryea or George Sanders? Dan was fantastic in Scarlet Street, The Woman in the Window, TLFT, and many others. However, I think Sanders was a little smoother.

I think that Sanders was the slimier of the two. Duryea, even when he was slapping women around, possessed a certain "charm" to him, for lack of a better word. Sanders, on the other hand, was harder to "warm up to" when he was a villain. Duryea would wise-crack, whereas Sanders would insult, in a sarcastic way.

Thanks for your input. I like your thoughts about Sanders insulting in a sarcastic way.

George Sanders was never a slapper, he was always too charming in a snake kinda of way. These two men were from different sides of the track.

I could see Duryea going for a gun, Sanders going for a crocked lawyer.

Yes, Duryea was a working-class American version of George Sanders, while Sanders was a posh English version of Dan Duryea. One other difference (that you alluded to) -- I can't picture Sanders shooting someone intentionally, but have no trouble seeing Duryea do the deed. Sanders is more prone to deceive, defraud or blackmail someone than to kill them.

Dan Duryea is always great - but have you seen Sanders in "Witness to Murder" with Barbara Stanwyck? He is in great evil form there - no spoilers, but it has tones of "Gaslight" and "The Stranger".
