Incorrect goof about the USS Franklin

This is in the "goofs" section:

At the end of the movie, the damaged aircraft carrier returns to NYC, as evidenced by the view of the Statue of Liberty. Yet a ship from the Pacific would not make the long journey all the way to NYC for repairs, but to the west coast or Hawaii.

This is incorrect. Shortly after the devastating fire(s) that ravaged the USS Franklin, she was taken in tow by the heavy cruiser USS Pittsburgh until she was able to raise enough steam to reach a speed of 14 kts (26 km/h), and then she proceeded to Ulithi Atoll under her own power for emergency repairs. Next, she steamed to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where repairs permitted her to steam to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, New York, via the Panama Canal, where she arrived on 28 April 1945. She had to steam to the East Coast of the United States for repairs in New York because all of the repair shipyards on the West Coast were heavily overloaded with American warships that had been damaged by Japanese kamikazes.

great catch!!

i rarely, if ever, even check the trivia and goof sections on imdb -- they are as equally right as wrong, but even then prone to conjecture.

That wording right there tells me that whoever submitted the goof was just another airhead armchair admiral using his own personal belief (with no experience to back it up) as facts.

the goof is in his own thinking, not the historical record.

I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!
