I like it but there are some songs that are annying.

Yeah I didn't really like Betty Garretts song it was kind of Annoying. I have it on dvd so I skip that scene but the rest of the movie is great. I love it.

Count me in, I've watched it probably a dozen times. I also celebrate every win by my team by watching this film again.

This movie is so much fun; the light-hearted humour and the impeccable cast make it well worth re-watching.

I love this movie too. I saw it about two summers ago and I keep coming back to it. (I like Anchors Aweigh too)

Overall, I perfer more serious and dramatic movies, like Gone With the Wind.
But I always have to watch this movie at least twice a year! And this habit has been going on for about seven years now...
I love Gene Kelly!

reply

Ah I love this movie! So light-hearted and happy and the cast is amazing - Pure golden Hollywood. Put Frank and Gene together and the film is always spectacular due to their chemistry on screen. I wish they'd done more films together. I disagree with the previous poster, I love Betty Garrett's song! "It's Fate Baby" has great lyrics, I mean who can come up with this as a rhyme - "astrology" and "knowledgy." Besides I love seeing Frank's amusingly cute expressions while he tries to run away from her and that he's so light that she can lift him up! I also like "Yes Indeedy," "Strictly USA" and "St Patrick's Day." I know the soundtrack isn't great in comparison with a lot of musicals, but I still like the songs. Gene's dancing is brilliant as always, he could call me "Baby Doll" any day ;)

I love it! There are some great numbers in this film. My favourite would probably be 'Yes, Indeedy', with the hilarious Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra clowning! I also love 'O Brian...'. I find Betty Garret's number catchy, not annoying. I don't really like Sinatra's ballad to Williams though.

reply

I really like it and at times its underrated compared to On The Town and Anchors Away...do not know why....Gene's numbers and the numbers in general aren't as cutting edge....but I think I enjoy the story a bit more than the other two movies.

I thought that Esther and Gene were kind of cute together and seemed to match each other....kind of surprising they did not do anything else together. She is not a singer or a dancer so this is probably why....

I like Betty Garrett too....although if she said one more time "some people never appreciate." It's Faaaate Baby it's Fate is a good tune really and she hits it well.

Good Flick....

Among the things I love about these MGM musicals are costumes. Look at the ladie's dresses in this movie - not only are they masterpieces of tailoring, not a crinkle anywhere, they are perfectly color coordinated. If Garrett is in green and white, she is ONLY in green and white from head to toe, and the green is the exact same shade in every detail. And the men's costumes are always perfectly fitted; they have even given li'l Frank ample shoulders :-) When Frank has a scene with Esther and he is in yellow, his grey bowtie has shades of yellow to match her dress. Garret's pink polkadot dress takes turns seeming kinda goofy and really pretty, just like her character. It's also fun to see the smiling faces of the extras as Gene does his Irish dance - not much acting required there. Ah, to have been an extra in those movies, getting paid to watch all that talent in action.

reply

I've never thought of that!

I would've LOVED to be an extra in one of these movies. Wow, to see Gene Kelly do his stuff! Come to think of it, I probably would've had to muster up some extra self control to keep from chasing after him!

I just got this movie on Netflix, and so far,I've had it two days.

OK I ADMIT IT!!!!I'M ADDICTED TO IT!!!

I'm watching it on the TCM On Demand Channel on HDTV. Very pleasurable costumes and performances but most of the songs except the title song, eh. There's no real hummable melody.

reply

I love it too. Can't believe its only got a 6.7 rating. Its delightful for lack of a better word.

reply

I love it. Always perks me up when I'm feeling down.
