Can I have some help with the ending??

I waited and waited for this movie to show on TCM, which it did a few years ago. As another thread mentions, the ending was cut short. So I waited to see if it would come on again, and it did so I recorded it. Wouldn't ya know, the ending was chopped off again. It looks like I missed perhaps two minutes.

Can anyone just tell me how the damn thing ended? My guess is she threw herself in the volcano. Am I correct?

Whadda ya hear, whadda ya say!

Check out the other thread in this message board. A very kind soul has put up a link to a good clip of the ending.

I don't think she threw herself into the volcano, as she herself expressed the commitment to bring up her child. I think the director's intention was that she would leave her fate up to God. At the same time, I couldn't see her going back to the village. So my guess is that she eventually made it to the other side of the island.

I have to disagree with your opinion. Through out Stromboli the Priest, a representative of God for the Island goes not offer much help for Karin other than telling her to be patient, this certainly did not help her cause and made the Priest look ineffective on the matter. Later on when the volcano erupted on the Island the locals prayed which obviously did not stop the damage the volcano caused. By showing Karin begging for God's help it showed how desperate she was for anything to swing in her favor.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

When Karin finally realizes there's nothing she can do to escape this "prison," she does the only thing left to do. She begs for God's mercy, asking for the strength to carry on, presumably to go back, be such her husband, and have her child.
