Okay movie thanks to Alfonso Bedoya

but even for 1949 the story line was purty old. Lots of clouds that don't seem to move. But watch this movie anyway for no other reason than 'ol 'Gold Hat' himself, and though cleaned up a little, is ever present. Yes, its Alfonso Bedoya at his sociopathic best. What a great villian that man was. His portrayal of 'Calico' is worth watching the rest of the cliche story line and acting.

Loved Bedoya in several films. When I wrote my first screenplay a few years ago I based on of the characters "Bedoya" on him. Unfortunately, some of the people in my writing class found the character racist. I guess times have changed, not always for the best.

Still he came off better than actors like Stephin Fetchit and Willie Best who are painful to watch.

MacDonadl Carey was a revelation. Not that I didn't know
he could act but he had plenty of charisma to go against Bill Holden, which is saying something.
Bedoya was the character he portrayed and I doubt he felt humiliated or didn't want the work. He wasn't always a criminal. He died prematurely: think he had a drink prob.'
