Soundtrack listings

Well I have seen this and it was very good. Now I am trying to recall the songs but none are listed here. Why not like for most other titles? Now does anyone remember the songs?

reply

Here are a couple of the songs: It's Whatcha Do with Whatcha Got; Stick-to-it-Ivity; So Dear to my Heart and Lavender Blue. If you ever find the lyrics please post them.

reply

lavender blue lyric could be found in wikipedia.

you say you'll change the Constitution well, you know, we all want to change your Head

reply

Hey i think someone hacked into my account and posted this because i have never heard of this show nor these songs. I am sorry!

reply

I was wondering if Mel Tormé sings the title tune. He is listed as one of the songwriters, and no one is credited as the solo singer. It sounds a lot like how Bing Crosby would have sung this tune. Anyone?

Dicky

reply

I have compiled most of the lyrics to the songs myself, as I have the video. However, there are some phrases in some of the songs that I could not quite understand. So maybe others can help both of us. I will put dashes (___ ___) in place of missing syllables. Someone has graciously corrected parts of the lyrics I had posted as of 8/26, and I am now editing this as of 8/28 to include those corrections. Thanks to Dicky, who helped me with these songs.

So Dear to My Heart

So dear
To my heart,
That September-ey day,
When that old shady lane
We strolled
Was just turning scarlet and gold.
So dear
To my heart.

So dear
To my heart,
That December-ey day,
When the first touch of frost
And snow
Had painted each tree
In the road.
So dear to my heart.
(So dear to my heart.)

I still can picture
The flowers in the showers,
And that picnic
In July.
And I still treasure
Each and ev'ry hour
Of those years
That had
To fly.

They're locked in my heart,
In a corner apart,
While I tenderly hold
The key.
As long
As I live,
They will be
So dear to my heart.
(Oh-o-o-o-o-o-o-oh)

It's What You Do With What You Got

The Wise Old Owl
Where there's a will, there's a way.
Every dog has his day.
Sound kinda corny, I'll admit,
But we oughtta find som'in' that'll help a bit.
"A rolling stone..." nah, that don't fit.
Here we are, Danny, this is it:
"It's what you dew..."
Oh, yes. "It's what you D-O, do,
With what you got,
That counts."
Yes, sir.

It's what you
Do with what you got.
The Blue Birds
You'll never
Find out
What you got.
Owl
It's what you
Do with
What you got,
Owl, Birds
That pays off in the end.

Owl
You gotta
Start with
What you got,
If what you
Got ain't
Such a lot.
To make the
Most of
What you got,
Here's what I recommend.

You start by a-tryin',
And applyin' your best.
Birds
If you try,
There ain't no denyin'...
Owl
There's a way to feather your nest.
Birds
You gotta
Add how
What you do,
Owl, Birds
And multiply by
What you do.
You think you can't win,
But you do,
And you get that dividend.

Animal Champions
It's what you
Do with
What you got,
Never mind how
Much you got.
It's what you
Do with
What you got,
That pays off in the end.

Owl
It's the means
You applieth
That raises your stock.
Look what David did to Goliath
With a little old hunk of rock.

Birds
It's what you
Do with
What you got,
And never mind how
Much you got.
It's what you
Do with
What you got,
That pays off
In the end.

Owl
Now, Looky here, son, stop a-sittin';
Gettin' somewhere takes some gettin'.
You can't
Sit and 'spect
To get it.
Now, the road to fame takes muscle,
Lots of work,
And lots of hustle.
So start
Right in,
And hit it.

Birds
Now if at
First you
Don't succeed,
A lot of
Spunk is
What you need,
Or someone
Else will
Take the lead,
So try, try; try again.

Owl
Just get up
When you fall down,
And don't be
Forlorn.
Look how Joshua busted that wall down
Will a little old measly horn.

Birds
It's what you
Do with
What you got,
And never mind
Just how much you got.
It's what you
Do with
What you got
That pays off in the end,
That pays off in the end.

Lavender Blue (Dilly-Dilly)

Lavender's blue,
Dilly-dilly,
Lavender's green;
If I were king,
Dilly-dilly,
I'd need a queen.
Who told me so,
Dilly-dilly,
Who told me so?
I told myslelf,
Dilly-Dilly,
I told me so.

If your dilly-dilly heart
Feels a dilly-dilly way,
And if you'll
Answer yes,
In a pretty little church,
On a dilly-dilly day,
You'll be wed in a dilly-dilly dress of...

Lavender blue,
Dilly-dilly,
Lavender green;
Then I'll be king,
dilly-dilly,
And you'll be my queen.

Billy Boy

Granny
Oh, where have you been, Billy boy, Billy boy,
Oh, where have you been, charmin' Billy?
Hiram
I have been to seek a wife;
She's the joy of m' life.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Granny
Is she often seen in church, Billy boy, Billy boy,
Is she often seen in church, charmin' Billy?
Hiram
Yes, she's often seen in church
With a bonnet,
White as burch.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Granny
Can she bake a cherry pie, Billy boy, Billy boy,
Can she bake a cherry pie, charmin' Billy?
Hiram
She can bake a cherry pie,
Quick as a cat can wink its eye.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Granny
How old is she, Billy boy, Billy boy,
How old is she, charmin' Billy?
Three times six,
Four times seven,
Twenty-eight and eleven.
Oh, she's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Granny, Hiram
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Stick-to-it-Ivity

The Wise Old Owl
Where there's a will,
There's a way to do it.
But, you'll nver get there
If you don't stick to it.
Now, let me tell youabout a fellow
Who had the righgt stuff,
And wouldn't give up,
Even when the goin' got rough.

Now, Christopher Columbus,
Livin' in Spain,

Showed capacity for usin' his brain.
Studied his geography,
Had it down-packed;
Said, "I'm gonna prove
That the world ain't flat!"
Because she thought he was right,
Queen Isabella, one night,
Gave him three small boats--
One, two three.

Now, the boats--were kinda leaky--
Started to sail.
came a hurricane,
A furious gale.
Waves were a-lashi',
Future looked black.
Sailors started yellin',
"Chris, turn back!"
On that eventful day,
What did Columbus say?

Christopher Columbus
Why, I said,
"Stick-to-it-
Ivity.
If you've got that stuff called
Stick-to-it-
Ivity,
You're gonna do all right.
Colubus, Sailors
Old Man Adversity,
Gonna have his bluff called.
Stick-to-it-
Ivity,
Never lost a fight.

Colubus
Yes siree,
Sailors
Yes siree,
Columbus
Yes siree.
Sailors
Yes siree.
Columbus
You can clear the deck for
Opportunity
By applyin'
Columbus, Sailors
Stick-to-it-
Ivity.
If you've got that stuff called
Stick-to-it-
Ivity,
You're gonna do all right,
We're gonna do all right.

Owl
Now, don't think Columbus was the only one
Who did what folks said couldn't be done.
So when folks say't ain't no use,

Remember
Robert Bruce.

Now, Robert was the bravest king
Scotland's ever known.

Came the enemy to threaten his throne.
Twice he went to battle,
Twice he met defeat;
Headed for the highlands
In retreat.

He thought he'd give up the fight,
But it so happened one night,
He saw a spider at work:
Back and forth, and back;
Up and down, and up.

Spider kept a-swingin',
Swingin' on his thread,
Tried to hook it to a limb overhead.
Spider kept a-missin'
Ev'ry time he tried.
Robert Bruce
You're never goin' to make it!
Owl
Robert Cried.
On that eventful day,
What did the spider say?

Spider
Says I,
"Robert, me lad,

Stick-to-it-
Ivity.
If you've got that stuff called
Stick-to-it-
Ivity,
You're going to do all right.
Old Man Adversity;
Gonna have his bluff called.
Stick-to-it-
Ivity,
Never lost a fight."

Bruce
Yes siree,
Soldiers
Yes siree,
Bruce
Yes siree.
Soldiers
Yes siree.
Bruce, soldiers
You can clear the deck for
Opportunity
By applyin'
Stick-to-it-
Ivity.
If you've got that stuff called
Stick-to-it-
Ivity,
You're goin' to do all right,
We're goin' to do all right!

Yes siree,
Yes siree.
You can clear the deck for
Opportunity
By applyin'
Stick-to-it-
Ivity.
If you've got that stuff called
Stick-to-it-
Ivity,
You're goin' to do all right,
You're goin' to do
All right!

The County Fair

The Wise Old Owl
Ho-dee-aye,
Ho-dee-ay,
Owl, The Blue Birds
What a great big, wonderful day!
Not a care
In the air.
Owl
Ev'rybody ya know,
From Matilda to Joe
Owl, Birds
Will be there,
The County Fair.
Ho-dee-ay,
Ho-dee-aye,
Birds
What a great big, beautiful sky!
Owl
All the clowns,
Like the crowds,
Birds
You can bet
They'll be dressed
In their brightest and best
For this day,
The County Fair.

The teenage misters
Will be shootin' little sisters
To the Ferris wheel up above,
And they'll be gettin'
Their best gals for pettin'
In the Tunnel of Love.

Owl
Ho-dee-aye
Birds
Ay-oh-aye
Owl
Ho-dee-ay
Birds
Ay-oh-ay
Owl, Birds
Come and blow your troubles away.
Owl
Just a grin
Gets you in
Owl, Birds
On this day of the year
When there's nothing but cheer
To share,
The County Fair.

This is all of the songs that are included in the movie, and I believe all of my lyrics are correct now, but if anyone sees a mistake, kindly feel free to point it out.

Hey I'm actually trying to find the original version of So Dear to My heart from the movies, but ITunes doesn't have it so does anyone know where I can find it?

reply

As I've said in a previous contribution to this thread, I thought this could be by Mel Tormé, who's listed in the credits as a writer, but the soundtrack listing of this IMDB entry now gives one John Beal as the singer, who I've never heard of, and cannot find as a singer with any reliability. The only available version listed on Allmusic and iTunes is a cover by Peggy Lee.

So, alas!

I have the original soundtrack in vinyl but don't have a way to convert it :-S

I haven't listened to it in years (okay, decades ). Sure wish they'd reissue some these old gems on CD. This was one of my favoite albums when I was a kid and I'd love to hear it again ...
