'The Dying Gunner'

When the gunner dies and Sammy and Capt. Stuart leave the tent, the "dead" gunner clearly moves. Is this a goof, or are we supposed to believe that -- contrary to what the two men believe -- he is still alive?

reply

Well it was Bryan Forbes' first job on a film.

I hadn't noticed him moving, I'll check the film and see

The gunner only moves when the camp bed he's lying on is rocked as Sammy Rice leaves the tent. He's not moving under his own volition, just being rocked back and forth slightly.

I watched this again, and would agree with you. However, the gunner's throat constricts, as though he is swallowing.

reply

I wondered about that when I checked it. But I think that's just different light and shadows making it look like it's moving.
