zygimantas, I understand your shock. I saw parts of this film years ago. It looked pretty good. I need to see it all soon. Richard Widmark is my favorite actor and, given the rest of the cast and director, need to see this film. I'll let you know how I like it.

I remember seeing this on the late show decades ago. It was filmed on location in Florida and the Bahamas and also featured John Russell and Linda Darnell; not a bad film. Doesn't seem to have been transferred to video or DVD, though a local TV station might still show it (if you're lucky).

reply

yeah it's a good question: does TCM own it?

I've seen it on tv years ago. Problem with it is, though it's not a "bad" film, the two strongest images in the movie, Richard Widmark and Veronica Lake, are not used to good effect. Widmark is only two years past his giggling sociopath old-lady murderer in "Kiss of Death", and Lake is not her young self or even the main love interest; Linda Darnell is, rather bland and not one of her more interesting spitfire roles as in "My Darling Clementine". In this company the supports like John Russell and Gary Merrill more than hold their own.

reply

I wouldn't necessarily call Darnell bland here - that's a more apt description of Lake's performance and generally mousy demeanor.
