Strange film with ridiculous ending (spoilers)

So, she kills a man and gets five years in prison - not enough details on this crime to make the sentence even remotely plausible especially as she is a female who are historically given far harder sentences for killing a man as vice versa.

She somehow keeps in touch with the villain of the piece and even takes enough money from him to buy herself an outfit and the mother of all hats to go and visit her parole officer.

Since when can't parolees get married? I don't know if this is true - today it would surely be a violation of their human rights.

Never mind - she can go and live with him and his blind mother (why blind? it had no bearing on the story) and his ever present eavesdropping kid brother. Bearing in mind Griff seems to be in his mid thirties, his kid brother is about fourteen and their mother seems to be in her mid sixties - it all seems a bit odd.

Anyway she is allowed to go and live with her parole officer for $100 (£50) appx)a month to do a bit of light dusting it seems. In 1949? I earned the princely sum of £2.17.6d ($6 appx) for a forty hour week in 1962 and that was considered a good wage.

After going on the run - they are constantly headlining in newspapers across the country for shooting a guy who isn't even dead and the authorities have no proof of anything against them. They could have stayed put and brazened it out - a parole officer's word against a villains? No contest.

To top it all off a ridiculous change of heart and all is well for the lovers. Goodness me - they got away with a lot in those days !!!
