The song

I really enjoyed the song 'She Wore Yellow Ribbon' which can be heard at the begining of this movie, but I have not been able to find out much about it. Was it written for this film or does it date back to the 19th century? Does anyone know?

She Wore A Yellow Ribbon was written in 1949 by M. Ottner and Leroy Parker (or it could be Parker Leroy, not too sure about his name). The song was performed and recorded by two artists during the same year, 1949. "Mitch Miller" (of Sing Along With Mitch fame) and the "Andrews Sisters". Since then it hasn't been recorded for sale. It has however been performed in the past on music shows such as Lawrence Welk, again Mitch Miller, and several other older shows. Hope this helps.

Actually -

The lyrics had been around in some variety for a number of years prior to 1949.

The basic MELODY has been around since the early to mid 1800s, and M Ottner changed a couple of notes around to get a slightly different melody, and he copyrighted it!
