Burt Lancaster's flogging

Perhaps footage is missing from the recently-released DVD. In his book, "Sadism in the Movies," George de Coulteray describes Burt Lancaster's flogging at the hands of Paul Henreid as "a truly extraordinary scene." He says that Lancaster "is tied to a frame, in an unbelievable position, legs apart, buttocks projecting, to receive the intended torture."

In my DVD, there's just the sound of one whiplash accompanying a darkly-lit shot of Henreid asking Lancaster about the diamonds. Lancaster, sweaty and in obvious pain, is seen only with his head hanging down, as if he's draped over the edge of a table, but the form of his bondage is unclear. Did de Coulteray see footage that I did not? Perhaps such footage was cut because one might interpret it to mean that Lancaster was not only flogged but raped.

Thats all I saw on the version I saw .. The length of which matches (pretty much, - all timings vary due to even just your own DVD player) the declared time.
