So what happened to the Princess and her assistant at the end?

They broke the rules according to the panel of 'judges' - she said something about the penalty for this was going to be 'unpleasant'. What do you think became of them? Disincorporated and sent into the Great Beyond? Do you think she and Orpheus will be reunited (in death) someday or will his death appear to him in another form?

I think they were going off to Hades (Hell).

Earlier, when Orphee's wife had died, he said something about following his wife to Hell. Heurtebise said, rather solemnly, "You don't have to go that far." It seemed to portend how far Death would go for him.

(Possible Spoiler)

Actually, the fate of the Princess and Heurtebise is revealed in the final chapter of Cocteau's "Orphee" trilogy "Testament of Orpheus".

"Testament" has Cocteau in FRONT of the camera, arguing about his movies, and in one scene he is brought before a "tribunal" consisting of The Princess and Heurtebise (played by the original actors), whose fate, it seems is to be condemned to judge others.

A movie well worth watching, as is the first of the trio "Blood of the Poet".

During this same scene, I was wondering about the fate of the poor idiot Cegeste.
Now that he was without guidance, it looked like he would end up wandering aimlessly through the mirror dimension for eternity.

I agree. Cegeste seemed bewildered.

Keep silent unless what you are going to say is more important than silence.
