Yusa's first murder

Hey I was just rewatching this film and I was wondering about Yusa's first murder at the house of the married couple. I was wondering what some of you thought went on there because the doctor says that he moved the body because he thought she would not want to be seem as she was which kind of hints to me that maybe some sort of rape could have gone on but later the husband is upset about the fact that she was murdered "for only 50,000 yen". So yea I was just wondering what you guys thought

Yeah, there was probably rape, or at least that's how I interpreted it. Kurosawa is not adverse to having rape in his films (Rashomon).

I don't know anything about how 1949 Japan operated, but is it possible the doctor and police did not tell the husband that his wife had been raped? The doctor said he moved the body to spare the victim further humiliation even though she was dead.

it did seem like a random crime, to just rob and kill an innocent woman for some money. at the time i didnt think about it, but looking back, and seeing the wild and dangerous nature of Yusa throughout the film, i think now yes there was probably a sexual assault committed. and yeh, if the woman was dead, what point would there be in the doctor telling her husband she was raped as well? Yusa seemed like a bit of a deviant, he hung around the chorus girls every night, almost stalking Harumi, so i think there was a sexually deviant element to him.
