Sun in the camera...


How is it that Rashomon is hailed as the first film to film directly into the sun when Stray Dog obviously does it first. The montage sceen when he is looking for the gun features a direct shot of the sun through some overhanging mesh, very much like the trees in Rashomon.

Stephen Prince completely neglects this in his commentary. Bizarre.

Directly into the sun would involve nothing interfering. The mesh stops the sun from ever being fully visible. In Rashomon the trees do give way to the sun.

Yeah I noticed that too, I guess the diffraction caused by the mesh made it easier to shoot directly at the sun, and so it can't really be caused a direct shot of the sun.
