Best Look at Occupation period Japan
What a priceless look at the streets of post war occupied Japan, the feel of it, the look of it, the people, fascinating.

shareAgreed. Most people who are used to seeing a modern, industrialized Japan really get a jolt when seeing this movie. To me Japan looked like a 3rd World nation in the movie-of course it was made just 4 years after war's end. Makes the rebuilding of the nation that much more impressive after seeing what it really was like in 1949. I loved the scenes at the ballpark as well!
shareI've read somewhere that film directors were not allowed to show any sign of the occupying forces; when filming on the Tokyo streets like this, they had to keep stopping while American cars or jeeps, or even servicemen on foot, went by.
