JOHN LUND

Whatever happened to John Lund's career. He held his own with Dietrich and Jean Arthur in A FOREIGN AFFAIR and with Ann Sheridan in STEEL TOWN.Then he turns up in High Society in a poor supporting role.
Nobody (well maybe Dan Duryea) can equaL Lyle Bettger as a smiling bad guy (and in his first movie too).
Jane Cowl took her part and gave it wings - a stage actressI believe - a shame she didnt make more movies.
Hope we get it on dvd soon - meanwhile I treasure my tv copy.

Poor John Lund! He was such a good actor, but his extreme good looks got in the way, and I'm afraid no one took him seriously. Also, leading men were a glut on the market after the war, and it didn't help Lund that the acting style changed with the advent of Clift and Brando. It's a damn shame; he was a fine performer.

To me, he made To Each His Own believable. Just seeing that smile would have made any girl fall for him. After that, he was always a favorite of mine.

His "extreme good looks"? He was quite plain looking, especially compared to Clift or Brando. Talented yes, but bland and forgettable.

reply

Lund was extremely good looking. I guess that's a matter of opinion.

reply

So handsome and talented! I did wonder why he was not a bigger star!
