I've seen this movie many times being a big Susan Hayward fan. This is
clearly one of her best. I love all her work from the late 30's to the
early 40's. Her beauty was ravishing and she always played such strong
women characters. I just wish they would release more of her earlier
works to DVD, especially this one. My VHS copies are getting old! If
you like Susan as much as I do I suggest you watch "I Can Get It For
You Wholesale" (this one isn't even on VHS! so catch it if it comes on
TMC) and "Smash-Up" (which you can get on DVD!)

After seeing her in "The Conquerer", I will never understand why she was not called one of the great Sex Symbols of the 50s. She was magnificent, and would inspire any man to conquer Anything. Hers was not an empty-headed body-only sexuality, underneath that superb package was a mind like a steel trap.
Why are there no WOMEN in todays movies? All we get are little girls like Angelina Jolie. A line, from a movie I can't recall, describes Susan Hayward perfectly....."A man could pound dreams into iron with a Woman like that."
