1949 Newspaper Ad for Lost Boundaries

While researching newspaper articles from 1949, I ran across interesting ad for this movie. Don't think the tagline would be used nowadays. It showed a photo of Mel Ferrer with the tagline "Why Didn't They Tell Me I Was a Negro".

I haven't seen the movie, but the tagline leads me to believe the lead character was unaware of his racial identity. Can anyone confirm?

He knew, and kept it a secret from everyone; the town he lived in, the Navy, and most importantly, his children, who initially resented him for keeping it secret.
