Marilyn's Marriages

For what it's worth...Take the User Reviews of the film with a few grains of salt. Two otherwise good reviews have Marilyn being married to Jack Donahue. (The character played by Ray Bolger)

MARILYN MILLER WAS NOT MARRIED TO JACK DONAHUE.

Marilyn was married three times: to Frank Carter (Gordon McCrae), from 1918-1919 (widowed.)

The "Jack" was JACK PICKFORD, married 1922-1927 (divorced) Mary Pickford's brother. This was the left out marriage. Ms. Pickford did NOT like Ms. Miller, and apparently the feeling was mutual.

The third husband was neither wealthy or a Railroad Baron: He was also not named "Henry Duran." He was a chorus boy in Marilyn's last show, named CHESTER O'BRIEN. They were married from 1934-1936...Marilyn's death.

JACK DONAHUE (1892-1930) Jack worked professionally in many of Marilyn Miller's shows, and they remained friends until his premature death in 1930.

Jack also had three other partners: His wife Alice, and three small daughters.

Marilyn Miller was Godmother to the youngest Donahue daughter.

that is interesting information. I always find this sort of thing very irritating - why pretend someone was married to someone they weren't. why invent a railway baron?

I know there were other men in her life - in their book about their years writing for broadway musicals 'Bring on the girls', P.G. wodehouse and guy bolton mention something about seeing miss Miller with her latest lover. Obviously you wouldn't expect that in a 40s film, but you'd think at least they could get the husbands right.
