Laurie's lasting love

I don't know what it's like in the book, but, in the movie, Laurie is definitely still hung up on Jo. he's so sad, when she runs off with Amy, leaving him on the stairs. Oddly enough, I bet Amy knows and is just satisfied to have a decent husband and thinks they will be loyal to each other but never really in love but just fond for each other.
