The Welsh

Watched this film for the first time; I'll have to watch it again because I don't speak Welsh and at least half the dialogue is Welsh with no subtitles! Has anyone who DOES speak the language seen this movie?

reply

I don't remember hearing any Welsh in the whole film!

I have seen the film. It was filmed in Rhydymain near Dolgellau where my family comes from. Many of the villagers were in the film as extras. The shop was my grandfathers though a studio set(exact copy) was used for the scene where Richard Burton asks the little girl what she wants(beth wyt ti moin?)though in North Wales he would have asked 'beth wyt ti eisiau?' I recognise many of the locations around the village, though the chapel was in another nearby village, Llanfachreth.

Haven't looked at this board in nearly three years! At least I got one serious reply. Thanks.

I really enjoyed it, and it was a joy to hear the Welsh language, especially to hear Richard Burton speaking in his native tongue in his first film role.
