Anyone understood the line of sucession of the family?I think that it was pretty aleatory,since we never knew what happened to the grandfather of the protagonist who if i remember properly was the true duke in the first place and what was his relation with his sucessor...

Near the start, Louis said the family had unusual succession rules. Normally aristocratic succession is "traced through males", and Louis wouldn't be eligible for the dukedom because he was tracing his claim through his mother. (The royal family follows different rules).
