Very annoying audio - the footsteps sound like their wearing wood shoes and walking on a wood floor! Even when they are walking on the dirt or carpet or pavement. I think they do this to add tension. When they walk away the apparent volume change does not correspond. When the boy fell in the ice the water sound was way out of proportion. The creaking of the rocking chair, the sound of cloth rubbing against cloth. I could go on but why bother, I already turned it off.
shareWell, if you're going to watch 60 year old movies, you should make a passing effort to under stand changing acting and technical styles. In 1949, the biggest competition to movies were radio plays, which relied on sound effects to advance the plot, since there were no visuals. Voice overs and sound effects were radio staples and thus were "normal". Certainly styles have changed, but the movie and story are timeless. Try watching with a slightly open mind And imagine a time before television, without air conditioning, when you could not assume electricity or indoor plumbing were standard equipment in houses. You might enjoy the story!
