Judy's character

I love Judy Garland to death, her character was alright, but I found Andrew's description of Veronica as a "sniffy old maid" to be so true. There were so many scenes where she overeacted to him, was haughty with him(for selling one harp), and even criticized him and told him plainly, (I just don't like you!) Can you imagine someone talking that way to the HEAD saleclerk/manager?! (lol)

I posted a similar post like this in "The Shop Around the Corner." Both characters are alright, though I found Veronica Fisher more likable than Margaret Sullivan's chracter. However I found them dislikable to an extent.

What do you think?

Can't say I agree, as Veronica is lovely to everyone else. She is only
rough on Andrew, who is just as passive-aggressive. Even in the beginning
when she says the harp is romantic, he responds snidely, "What's romantic
about it?"

I agree. I think "Veronica Fisher" is the most unlikeable character Judy ever played at MGM. I think she's more unlikeable than Margaret Sullavan's "Klara Novack"in THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER, in part because SHOP'S superior script provides explanations for "Klara's" behavior that SUMMERTIME's looser one doesn't for "Veronica's."

I think Veronica is much nastier to Andrew than he is to her (or than Klara is to Alfred in SHOP). In addition to Veronica's many snide comments (e.g., her sarcastic "Would you like a little HELLLPPP?" when he's trying to sing "Put Your Arms Around Me Honey" for a customer, followed by her deliberately adding extra "conditions" to her performance one at a time and then slapping him on the back just to get his goat), she does imitations of him in the locker room and spreads vicious (and apparently unfounded) rumors that he's bowlegged. She says she has "information to the contrary," but from where? Everyone else at Oberkugen's likes Andrew. Perhaps it's an acquaintance of her dressmaker Aunt's? In any case, it's a rotten thing for her to do.

No, HE is much nastier to HER by showing up at the restaurant, not
revealing his true identity and humiliating her.

Since you clearly don't get the film (and probably "The Shop Around
The Corner") and don't like it, why watch repeatedly and comment on it???

I liked her character. Strong, feisty, with a good head on her shoulders. Thank you, Judy Garland!
