Similarities to 'King Lear'?

Just watched this tonight and certainly understand all those people who expressed surprise that they'd never heard of such a good film, although 1949 was a very good year in American movies and Mankiewicz's other film ("A Letter to Three Wives") got all the attention (and Oscars). Did anyone else see similarities to "King Lear": the domineering good-bad father whose oversized ego leads to his downfall and loss of his kingdom, favored child, envious siblings.

I just came to say the same thing. A Film noir King Lear. Great idea!

Thats why this reminds many of the Godfather as Coppola has been very upfront about patterning it in on Lear.
