THE HASTY HEART

Movie girl: I had seen this great film several years ago and was making a copy
recently for a friend. When I saw it again I interpreted something entirely
different: Did Patricia Neal's character- the beautiful and gallant nurse really
fall for Lachy in the end? Of course we conclude that she went along with his marriage proposal because of his imminent demise - she reluctantly decided to say yes.

My question is - did she step beyond the boundaries of duty and really fall in love with Lachy? When he is angry with her and feels that she only wants to make him feel better he says he does not want pity. Her reply was that every woman would feel the same and then went on to imply that the feelings were mutual.... Does anyone else see it that way? He was getting ready to leave the barracks at the time and was headed home to Scotland.
