Such a good movie and Richard Todd really pulls the heart strings.

You're right..great movie and super actor by Richard Todd

Agree completely. Just a terrific story, uplifting message, and fine performances all the way around... particularly by Richard Todd. This is a film to see and remember.

Couldn't agree more! Happy to own the DVD, as it contains a commentary by the director, Vincent Sherman (adding further insights on the production), and Reagan biographer, John Merony.

Todd's performance here is on a par with his great performance in "A Man Called Peter". One superb actor!

A beautiful movie. Patricia Neal was amazing too. She was such a good actress, very underrated. Richard Todd was funny and heartbreaking.

I saw this when I was young and immediately fell in love with Richard Todd. I wanted to rent some more of his movies and went through the list, but I've seen most of them and don't care to watch them again, even for him. It's a shame he came up in the 50's and was mostly stuck in war films and costume dramas. He had few chances to show what he could do, and now younger viewers don't appreciate him because they have no interest in most of his films.

Wonderful, wonderful movie and Richard Todd does a fantastic performance that shows all the different emotions of this particular character that he portrays. I saw it about 20 years ago and have never forgotten it and accidentally stumbled across it the other day and was so pleased to see it again.

I also love the way it ends on a funny note and not watching his death. It was sort of good to see his last appearance on a good note and because his character felt so real, I did not have to watch him die and mourn his death, (yes I know it is only a movie lol) but could remember him for his funny little scottish ways and personality.

Well done Richard Todd. :)

I was watching it yesterday and was struck by just how good looking he was, and he really looked like the young boy he was playing when in reality he was 30 (so glad he replaced Richard Basehart in the play, I never liked that actor and taking over the role got Todd the film). I didn't care for the ending, it looked like it was something different than what is in the play, though I could be wrong. I didn't want to see him die but this ending was almost abrupt, like they stopped the filming suddenly.

I'm a fan of Todd, but his Scottish accent bordered on caricature, and I think Gordon Jackson, originally cast for the role, would've been even better.
