Bible?

Watched this cinematic mess again today and laughed as I have never laughed before. It's so bad at times it is truly hilarious.

Anyway, when Cooper took the "oath" in the courtroom, he only held up his right hand but did not but his left on a bible. He was simply asked, "Do you swear to tell the truth. . etc." but no bible. What kind of "oath," is that. Don't you have to swear on something?

Is this standard procedure?

In courtrooms today you need only affirm that you will tell the truth.

Every third person who complains will be shot. Two people have complained already!

Okay, but what about in 1950?

No bible then either.
