Why so dark and gray?
There's no light and so little contrast, and yet it's an impeccable print with nice grain and no flaws. This must be the way it's supposed to look, all dark and washy, but WHY?

albeit moody, the general exposure *ratios* (key light to fill light, key light to backlight) seem in place -- but yes, everything is dim overall (TCM print 2014).
looks like a mistake in the transfer from film to video to me.
