I was watching this movie today and my TV broke just a the end - I am going crazy! James Mason walked towards the ringing phone and the screen went blank!
Did Barbara Stanwick realy leave him???

At bit late for a reply to your question... Yes she did, on the phone he tells his M-in-law that he will not be coming for dinner on Thursday. He then stands, back to camera, for a medium shot of him gazing out of the window at the river. The End.

Rent or buy it this is a grossly underrated film.
I always question the validity of people on imdb who claim "I just missed the ending ..what happened?"..with so many ways to record a movie and they still havent figured it out? ..are they just looking to see if they can get people talking?.
......I always put them in the same category as the losers who ask "is there any nudity in this film, and what is it?"
I'm old school and only have basic cable (my husband HAS to have his ESPN). Work a job I love, rather than one that pays well, and don't do any extras, like Netflix, etc. No DVR and probably wouldn't bother, anyway, if I were watching it real time. My cable's gone out right at the end of a movie, so can see how it can happen. Very frustrating! Maybe I need to join the 21st century. Lol
