2 cartoons, 3 different versions
Alrighty, I've known about these different releases for some time now. First, we have the original "Porky in Wackyland". This was the first release and was originally in black and white. Next, there was this release, "Dough for the Do-Do". This was half remake/half new stuff. This featured footage from the original which had been colorized. Unfortunately the colorization process at this time would make the quality slightly darker. Later on, as this webstie says, the original "Wackyland" was digitally colorized. The main differences between "Wackyland" and "Do-Do" are alternate gags as well as an alternate ending for each. For example, in "Wackyland", when porky falls through some trap door or something (can't remember exactly, been a while since I've seen 'em) he slides down a long warped slide and hits the bottom. In "Do-Do", he looks as if he's falling straight down, then the angle pulls back to see that Porky is actually floating in the air, with the Do-Do rotating a fake sky background behind Porky. As for the ending, in "Wackyland", when Porky captures the Do-Do and claims that he has the last do-do (once again, can't remember how he captured him in this version), a HUGE crowd of do-dos come in saying "YUP! YOU'VE GOT THE LAST OF THE DO-DOS!!!!!". In "Do-Do", Porky dresses up as a do-do bird, captures the real do-do bird, hops in a boat with him. Once again, he claims he has caught the last do-do, and after he rows away, the same crowd of do-dos jump in the frame saying "YUP! HE GOT THE LAST OF THE DO-DOS!!!!!". Same joke, different execution. I'm sure there were more differences than just these, but none can shoot back to mind. This version, "Dough for the Do-Do", is being released in the 56 Looney Tunes DVD boxset this fall, so the original colorized footage will be properly remastered for the best quality.
