Wasn't this a rodgers and Hart musical?

I just saw the movie "Words and Music" in it they do a scene from the musical and Lorenz Hart dies during the revival of the piece in 1943. It is possible that someone else could take the material. but if it is so well known why would they take other music to it

I believe that Paramount Pictures couldn't work out a deal to use the Rodgers and Hart score as originally planned, so they hired Burke and Van Heusen to write some new songs for this lovely film.
The Burke and Van Heusen songs are very nice indeed but it is a shame that the classic Rodgers and Hart (from their version) song 'My Heart Stood Still' could not be used. Still, Rhonda Fleming singing, 'When is sometime' is rather enchanting.

According to the trivia section here on IMDB for this film, Paramount couldn't get the rights to the R&H score because MGM had already purchased them for use in "Words And Music", which had been released the year before. Other songs from the R&H score are "Thou Swell" (a classic rendition of this was done by June Allyson in "Words And Music"), "On A Desert Island With Thee", "I Feel At Home With You", and "To Keep My Love Alive" (which was written for the 1943 revival). Anyway, it is a shame that a film version using the R&H score was never made.

A film version of the Rogers and Hammerstein musical was made, in 1955 for television, and starring Eddie Albert.
