Wish it was a 'Real' Christmas Movie

Over half of this film takes place around Christmas and winter time. I know they were following a short story and perhaps duplicated its seasonal references. However, to invoke artistic license, I would have preferred the first 2/4 of it being set in winter; the next 3/4 set in spring and summer; and then coming full circle in the final 4/4 with the church building and the nuns' triumph being set once again in winter. Although that may have changed it from its literary source, I think this small alteration would have transformed "Stable" into a Christmas classic.

Well, the Christmas season sequence was pretty minimal, as you've noted; but if you look at it another way, the whole idea (and ideal) of Christmas is that the sentiments, values, good will, etc. that are associated with it should be carried over year round, not just confined to the holiday season alone.

The story's constraints have the nuns, at first, given a single month to accomplish their goals and later, the bishop grants them another couple of months, during which time the nuns meet and eventually overcome every obstacle and opponent impeding them from their dream of building their childrens hospital. These challenges, deadlines, and business and legal matters weren't things for which they had sufficient resources to ride out over a whole year's time; but it seems more realistic and believeable (to me, anyway) that the nuns would accomplish their mission during the time alloted them by the bishop.

Nevertheless, I'm not trying to refute anything as you've expressed it. Your feelings are your feelings. Fortunately for those who feel as you do on the subject, there's an abundance of great Christmas-themed movies that are more centered on that "most wonderful time of the year."

Whatever you do, DO NOT read this sig--ACKKK!!! TOO LATE!!!
