Through a Long and Sleepless Night

Does anyone know the name of the Gregorian chant that the nuns are singing in the background? Or how the lyrics go? I presume it is in Latin. Any help would be great!

LEND AN EAR, I implore you, this comes from my heart: I'll always adore you, til death do us part.

In the movie it is described as a Gregorian Field Chant, Cantalena Romana. I'm not sure of the spelling. I've searched around for it and it doesn't appear to be a genuine Gregorian chant, rather it's a composition by the film's composer, Lionel Newman.

The one recording of the film score is quite pricey and very hard to find. I've also noticed that the movie has never made it to DVD and the VHS version --- the one I have --- is now selling for 2-3 times the price of the original.

I'll probably make an audio recording of the tape and play it at Christmas.

Hope this helps a little.

The SCORE composer is Cyril Mockridge, writing in the style of 20 Century Fox's music department head, ALFRED Newman.

Lionel Newman was probably the music director.

ALFRED Newman did not write the score, but he did write the SONG, Through a Long and Sleepless Night.

What you say sounds familiar. I thought it was strange when I didn;t see Alfred Newman's name in the credits. Thanks!

It is the Miserere by Allegri
