A solution for the nuns...

The bishop said at one point, 'If your financial plans don't work out, OR, you are not able to sustain yourselves, you will have to abandon this scheme and move back to France'. (I paraphrase).

Since they already had the land, none of this should have depended on the sale of the Witch Hazel factory, they could ditch that idea and get some war surplus Quonset huts. They had enough money to buy a couple or more, and put them on their own property — they showed that they could sustain themselves, so that part of the bargain was already taken care of. The government was giving them away to colleges and churches, so they could have done it for free too.

That may have worked as a temporary solution but they were building an actual hospital; a structure that would stand the test of time.

The Witch Hazel factory was going to serve as the temporary hospital and/or residence while the hospital was being built on the donated land.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Since they only need 500 more dollars, the nuns should've gotten it from Luigi (the guy who gave the land). He wanted the hospital built as a tribute to his dead son so I'm sure he would have give the final 500 dollars!

I am unsure if Luigi would have given (or loaned the money at non-usurious rates), however they definitely could have got a loan for the money. They had made $4500 in 3 months and had the land as well as animals and supplies as collateral.
