Did she really love him?

In the beginning, it seemed like Midge was a meal ticket for Grace. Grace seemed like the dangerous blonde bombshell. But in the scene when Midge leaves her it seems like she really does have feelings for him. If that scene isn't convincing enough, I think it is the ending fight scene that really is. When he's getting beat up in the end you can see her in the audience with tears in her eyes.

Like she told Midge, she had time invested in Johnny Dunne who is now in shambles. So, she has lost her second investment, Midge.

"Sorry. If I've not responded to you either it wasn't necessary or I've set you to Ignore."

Like in many of these classic movies the romance part is the weakest link IMO.

I think she did develop some sort of affection for him but I highly doubt it reached anywhere near the point of actual love. The only one of the girls that I think genuinely loved him was Palmer - with Emma, it was a kind of puppy love that ultimately faded as she grew closer to Connie (and if Midge hadn't set his sights on her, I think it's fair to say that Emma and Connie would have ended up together right from the start); Grace made it explicit that he was a meal ticket to her and her being upset at being dumped by him seemed to me to largely stem from the fact that she was probably used to being the one doing the dumping and Midge was undeniably very callous about the whole thing, basically beating her at her own game. Palmer, on the other hand, was sincerely upset when he left her.
